I think that you could also add phonemic awareness to this standard.<br \/>\nI see how you are interpreting this standard and I think you are spot on, the 18 plus words are such a great thing to include in the core standards for kindergarteners<br \/>\nThe other connections I see like I said are phonemic awareness and fluency, I think these can both be involved with the sight words and the reading.
